The Mu Eta Chapter of IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu was established in August 2016 at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal and is among the first IEEE-HKN chapters on the African continent. Having pledged to uphold the values of excellence, integrity and leadership in all aspects of our life; the Mu Eta Chapter further encourages members to contribute positively to the world around them. Central to our identity as a Chapter is recognizing that our education and skills put us in a position of privilege. This places a unique responsibility on every member to use their skills to the benefit, not only themselves, but the broader community as well.

IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN) is an international honor society (pioneer Electrical Engineering honor society) dedicated to encouraging and recognizing excellence in the fields of Electrical, Electronic and Computer engineering. Since 1904, IEEE-HKN(formerly just HKN) has invited the best ambassadors from these fields to the society. Members are offered access to a variety of service programme, as well as leadership and networking opportunities.
